Product Manager: IP Services
Job summary
The IP Services Product Manager is the business owner for the assigned product area. In this capacity, they are responsible for:
- Market awareness, research, and analysis
- Idea generation, collection, and analysis
- Business Case development
- Product Specification development
The IP Services Product Manager is required for cross functional team leadership to develop, roll-out, and provide on-going support for IP Services, including coverage of the following key components:
- Marketing
- Sales
- Ordering
- Provisioning
- On-Going Support and Management
- Billing and Reporting
Summary of essential job functions
- Develop, manage, and support all aspects of assigned product areas which are predominately intended to be IP services:
- IP Transit (BGP)
- Internet Access (non BGP)
- Europe, US and Asia
- Africa Internet Exchange (Peering Facilitation)
- Ethernet Private Line (Point to Point Ethernet Line)
- Layer 2 VPN (Multipoint Ethernet )
- Layer 3 VPN (IP VPN)
- Short-Term Services: Disaster Recovery Enablement, Short-Term provisioning, After Hours usage
- Manage product development projects including definition, development, release and post-release activities. Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Accounting/Finance as needed.
- Work with Marketing to position IP Services in appropriate ways, including press, print, analysts, collateral, web, and other Sales and marketing tools, such as demos.
- Work with Engineering, IS and Managed Services Suppliers to maintain and improve monitoring, alarming, ticketing and customer reporting processes and tools.
- Work with Sales teams to understand specific customer needs and to prepare them to market IP services.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate knowledge of competition and IP Services key differentiators.
- Develop and analyze market opportunity research, industry and competitive information.
- Develop and analyze customer needs for future product enhancements / developments.
- Work with internal executive staff to develop and maintain product strategy in line with company strategies.
- Lead product development, feature definition, product positioning and pricing efforts.
- Work out product costing with Finance and maintain an updated set of product costing. Continuously review product processes and cost components so as to reduce product costing.
- Monitor and ensure that revenue and profitability targets of the product are met. Detect any negative trends, investigate and explain any anomalies in revenue or costing trends and propose solutions to correct it.
- Enhance product features and review pricing to ensure product competitiveness and service quality based on benchmarks/feedbacks.
- Perform any other duties as and when assigned by Management.
Minimum requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or Marketing
- Advanced degree in financial, business management and/or marketing is a plus.
- Preferably with 3-5 years of Product Management / Product Marketing experience involving IP services including Internet and VPN services and technologies.
- 3+ years of services experience in a telecom/data services/ISP environment is a plus.
- Prior Sales Engineering experience is a plus.
- Good written and oral communications skills.
- Knowledge of internet & telecommunications industry. Technical knowledge in IP, Security and IT Services would be advantageous.
- Keen sense of technology developments, market trends, and needs of the data/voice communications market.
- Achievement and customer oriented. Independent, creative and with drive. Team player.
Abilities required
- Requires excellent interpersonal and communication, both written and verbal, skills.
- Requires excellent project management and cross functional team leadership skills.
- Requires strong PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), preferably including database and web development familiarity/experience.
- Working understanding of broadband technologies.
